Difference between Resistance in Series and Parallel

Difference between Resistance in Series and Parallel

Distinguish, differentiate, compare and explain what is the Difference between Resistance in Series and Parallel. Comparison and Differences.

Difference between Resistance in Series and Parallel

1. If a number of resistances are connected in such a way that the same current flows through each resistance, then the arrangement is called resistances in series. If a number of resistances are connected between two common points such that the potential difference across each is the same then that arrangement is called resistances in parallel.

2. The effective resistance is a series combination is greater than the individual resistances. The effective resistance of the parallel combination is less than the individual resistances.

3. Resistance series combination is used to increase resistance in a circuit. Resistance parallel combination is used to decrease resistance in the circuit.

4. The series combination of resistance decreases the current in the circuit. The parallel combination of resistance increases the current in the circuit.
