Differences between Yukata and Kimono Dress
Both kimono and yukata are traditional forms of dress worn by people in Japan. Both are long, t-shaped robes with belts and long sleeves, however they have a few differences. The kimono is usually worn in a formal setting, are found in expensive materials such as silk, and have detailed patterns. The yukata was traditionally a more casual garment, and thus is usually made from less expensive material and designed in brighter colors.
Visually kimonos differ from yukata because they have two collars while yukatas have only one stiff collar. Also, kimonos are worn more often in the winter, and have much longer sleeves than yukatas. Historically, Japanese women would wear kimonos whose sleeves would touch the ground to signify that they were unmarried.
What is the main differences between kimono and yukata?
Kimono is worn during the winter and yukata is worn during the summer. Kimono is made out of silk and you need special inner garments to put it on. Yukata is made out of cotton and has more casual and colorful design.
