Comparison and Difference between Centralized and Distributed DBMS

1. In the Centralized DBMS system, the data is stored at a single computer site, which can be used by multiple users. In the Distributed DBMS system, Database and DBMS software are distributed over many sites, connected by a computer network.

2. Centralized DBMS maintains the database at one site. Distributed DBMS maintains the database at a number of different sites.

3. If the centralized system fails, the entire system is halted. In Distributed, if one system fails, the system continues work with other sites.

4. A centralized system is less reliable whereas Distributed DBMS is more reliable.
