Difference between Process and Value Stream Mapping

Distinguish, differentiate, compare and explain what is the main difference between Process and Value Stream Mapping using examples. Comparison and Differences.

Comparison and Difference between Process and Value Stream Mapping

1. In process mapping, the aim is to identify the voice of the customer and classifies the process outputs and inputs. In value stream mapping, the aim is to identify waste between and within processes.

2. Process mapping defines the borders of the process and only the high-level steps are included in the mapping. Value stream mapping is detailed mapping, involving many steps, and focus on both the information and material flows.

3. The process mapping can be used in projects like DMAIC, Lean, Kaizen, 5 whys or Theory of Constraints. In value stream mapping, Some of the variables calculated are talk time and throughput yield.
