Difference between Ionic and Covalent bond

1. An ionic bond is formed by transference of electrons from one atom to the other. A covalent bond is formed by the sharing of electron pairs by two atoms.

2. Ionic bonds are Electrostatic whereas Covalent bonds are not electrostatic, but they are rigid.

3. Ionic substances are formed by ionic bonds. Molecules are formed by a covalent bond.

4. An ionic bond is non-directional whereas Covalent bond is directional.
