Difference between Compass and Plane Table Survey
1. The branch of surveying in which directions of survey lines are determined by a compass and their lengths by chaining or taping is called as compass surveying. The plane table is an installment used for surveying by a graphical method in which the field work and plotting are done simultaneously.
2. Compass Survey is used for large mapping while Plane table survey is suitable for small and medium scale mapping.
3. In the first, the topographical features of terrain are not clear while in the other topographical features are mapped and are in full view.
4. Compass survey takes more time in surveying and its mapping. Plane table consumes less time in surveying and its mapping.
