Difference between Otto and Diesel Cycle

Difference between Otto and Diesel Cycle

Differentiate, distinguish, compare and explain what is the main difference between Otto and Diesel Cycle. Comparison and Differences.

Difference between Otto and Diesel Cycle

1. In the Otto cycle, both heat addition and rejection take place at constant volume. In Diesel cycle heat addition takes place at a constant pressure while heat rejection takes place at constant volume.

2. Otto cycle has higher air standard efficiency while diesel has lower air standard efficiency.

3. In first, the efficiency depends only upon compression ratio while in second the efficiency depends upon compression ratio and cut-off ratio both.

4. In Otto, the efficiency does not depends upon the load. In the diesel cycle, the efficiency depends upon load and increases as the load is decreased.
